The Yorkshire Ripper

MAUREEN LEA

A teenage student was battered by an unknown assailant on 25th October 1980 in the grounds of Leeds University. I sourced this information from David Yallop's book I can't find any other information on this but the place and the timing and the state of Peter Sutcliffe's mind make him a prime suspect.

I agree with Yallop that Sutcliffe looks to be the No 1 suspect in this case. The police have never mentioned this assault to conceal the extent of their error of not holding the madman Sutcliffe, who was allowed to remain free; because his arrest would risk upsetting their plan for the most famous capture in criminal history; the capture of Billy Tracey, the Yorkshire Ripper with blood on his hands, and which would make them all the most famous cops in the world.

If they got the Ripper the crimes of the copy cat could be dealt with easily. Getting the Ripper was a euphoric dream of the senior police who were privy to the inside information, that they were waiting for Tracey to travel to the UK and be apprehended on the job. It was every policeman's dream cop.
